Pranayama is a very important part of a traditional yoga path. In addition to yoga poses, pranayama serves as a nerve-purifying technique, which helps to reduce stress and fatigue, alleviate mood, and improve one’s health and well-being. Prana means energy, Yama means control. Prana, or our vital life force, is what sustains all life. When we are breathing consciously, we therefore in more control of our own breath and life force.
